York Designer Outlet
York Designer Outlet is a large designer outlet shopping village situated on the outskirts of York near the interchange of the A64 and the A19. The postcode is YO19 4TA and parking is free. Buses run directly from York railway station to the outlet every 10 minutes.
York Designer Outlet is run by Mcarthur Glen and has over 120 shops. It is different from many designer outlets in that the whole outlet is indoors, inside a large purpose built two storey building. There are lots of stores downstairs and a few upstairs, but most of the upstairs is dedicated to the food court, a restaurant area where every taste is catered to through a variety of restaurant outlets including McDonalds, Pizza Express, Pizza Hut Express, Fat Jackets, Bagel Nash and Pret a Manger, most of whom share a central eating area.
There are also coffee bars downstairs including Starbucks, Cafe Nero and Thorntons.
Some of the many stores at the outlet include LaCoste, Tag Heuer, Ted Baker, Gieves and Hawkes, Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren, Hobbs, Jaeger, Armani Collections, Van Heusen, French Connection, LK Bennett, Crew, Austin Reed, Coast, Daniel Footwear, Radley, Timberland, Samsonite, Thomas Pink, Osprey, Paul Smith, Phase Eight, Gap Outlet, Next, Mamas & Papas, Jacques Vert, Lindt, Le Creuset and Escada.
Special events take place at the outlet from time to time. At the time of writing, events planned over the summer holidays included the chance to meet Dr Doolittle, a strawberry tea event with Le Creuset to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and a Music, Dance and Theatre Weekend.
York Designer Outlet opens at 10:00am Monday to Sunday, although larger shops open at 11am on Sunday; the stores close at 6:00pm on Monday to Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and 8.00pm on Thursday, when there is late night shopping. They close at 5pm on Sunday. Bank holiday opening hours are 10am-6pm.
